@sfchronicle: Carrying signs that read “Exit!” and “Get out, not wanted,” dozens of Avenal residents packed the first City Council meeting since three elected leaders voted to defy a landslide recall and remain in office. Just minutes into Thursday’s meeting, the tension simmering in the San Joaquin Valley city boiled over, with shouting matches erupting between residents and council members. After officials attempted to cut off one speaker who went over her allotted time, Mayor Alvaro Preciado warned that anyone who violated protocol would be escorted out by police. Four police officers then approached the audience. A handful of residents confronted the officers, saying they had no obligation to take direction from the recalled council members.
