I think the problem with this take is fhat it makes the assumption that poor people can simply, stop being poor. It’s great for those who came from lower socio-economic backgrounds and found their footing, but most who are poor tend to remain poor for the rest of their lives. So the take “poor people shouldn’t have kids” is short-sighted and should really focus on solving the problem of poverty in general rather than policing what poor people can or cannot do.

I agree that if you have literally nothing then one shouldn’t try to have kids, but no, generally Islam pushes back against this idea that poor people shouldn’t have kids. 1. The Quran directly addresses this fear. In two places (17:31 and 6:151), the Quran tells people not to avoid or harm their children out of fear of poverty, saying God provides for both parents and the children. These verses were originally about stopping infanticide in pre-Islamic Arabia, but the lesson still applies: being poor doesn't mean you shouldn't have a family. Allah will provide for the parents and the children. 2. The real solution is fixing poverty, not limiting births. Islam has built-in systems like zakat (obligatory charity) meant to help poor people, not to discourage them from having children. The problem is seen as unfair distribution of wealth, not too many children. 3. Poverty doesn't make someone less valuable. Islamic teachings stress that being good and faithful matters more than being wealthy. So tying someone's right to have children to how much money they have goes against that message. Having a family is a Muslim’s right, and wealth is not a main factor as we should believe that Allah will provide.
