@thisishiphop73: Top 15 Albums of 1998: # 5 DMX "It's Dark and Hell Is Hot" DMX had a strong year in 97 and had the streets buzzing! He was all over every mixtape and had 2 features on Mase’s album. One thing that's initially overlooked is how skilled DMX is as an MC. He could do it all on the mic, has a strong presence, and no matter the beat he carried the song with no problem. He simply stole the show in 98. His success is almost unexplainable, he had only a few previous guest spots and managed to release a 4x platinum debut album. It goes far beyond hype because the album speaks for itself. X is a stark contrast to the light-hearted, soft beats, and weak sampling that was popular just a year before. His flow and rapping on every track makes his songs more interesting. You have to follow every word because he's unpredictable and quite entertaining. Best of all, the album is consistent! It's hard to think of 1998 and not mention DMX, this was pretty much his year. This album is a must have. #DMX #ItsDarkandHellisHot #hiphop #RuffRyders #Yonkers
