LITERALLY MEEE. Now I’m scared to drive, scared of being perceived, scared of job interviews, and scared to talk to people. IM JUST SCARED. I’m genuinely scared of working, not because of having to work, but bc I feel like I’m going to make a lot of mistakes and embarrass myself, even though we’re all bound to make mistakes. I missed so many teenaged development milestones because I basically wasn’t allowed to leave the house. If it wasn’t a cousin’s event I couldn’t go. My friends could barely come over and if they did, we had to sit in the living room. I didn’t date in high school because I didn’t have the social skills. Please let your kids experience the world. I’m still catching up on media I couldn’t watch in my 30s.

It stops u from experiencing alot of negative situations but it also leaves u very unprepared for them . Its like putting you outside with no emotional armour while other people are fully geared up.

Sheltered kid here: I genuinely feel like I’m so awkward and I’m always second guessing everything I say or do. Like i feel embarrassed or judged during simple conversations. Even going to work, my anxiety is through the roof. but i learned how to mask it. Also being in open spaces with more than like 10 people, i genuinely get so overwhelmed and uncomfortable. But I am working on going out by myself and working on my social interactions.

Social experiences while you’re a developing adolescent is ENRICHMENT. It’s a shame to have be thrown into some things, for the first time, as a full adult w/ responsibilities already and more grave repercussions for your mistakes.
