@thatencouragingmama: I don’t know who needs to hear this today, but you’re not behind. I’ve been thinking about that a lot lately. Because it feels like everywhere we look somebody is doing something. Buying the house. Getting the promotion. Taking the trip. Growing the business. Hitting the milestone. Living the life we thought we’d be living by now. And if we’re not careful, it’s really easy to start measuring our lives against someone else’s timeline. To look around and wonder if we missed something. If we made the wrong choice. If we took a wrong turn somewhere. If we’re falling behind. I think comparison has a way of making us forget things. It makes us forget how faithful God has been. It makes us forget prayers He’s already answered. It makes us forget growth that happened slowly enough we barely noticed it. It makes us forget that God has never asked us to live somebody else’s story. Only the one He gave us. I think about David sometimes. Before he was king, there were years spent tending sheep. Years that probably didn’t look impressive to anybody else. Years where nobody saw what God was doing. Years where it would have been easy to believe nothing was happening at all. Except God was preparing him the entire time. The older I get, the more convinced I become that God is rarely in a hurry. And if God isn’t in a hurry with my story, maybe I don’t need to be either. Maybe the season you’re in isn’t proof that you’ve fallen behind. Maybe it’s simply where God has you right now. Growing. Preparing. Working in ways you can’t fully see yet. And maybe faith looks like trusting Him enough to stop comparing timelines and start believing He’s still writing your story too.
