Ooh. I've been to Thailand 63 times and I'm going again in September. But I've never had any problems. It happened to a friend in Sisaket and he also got dengue fever but I've never heard of anyone on Koh Samui. Get well soon.

I am always baffled by such stories. I go to thailand since 30 years, before usually once a year but for one month and now betwen 1-4 times a year for 2 weeks. I was all over thailand including samui many times. Never used any bug spray and never had something happening to me.
