We don’t shame people for needing medication to manage blood pressure, cholesterol or depression for life. But somehow GLP-1s are different? Stopping medication means losing its benefits. Food noise is real, and if you’ve never lived with it, don’t mistake your privilege for superior willpower.

any responsible doctor prescribing it also recommends dietetics, exercise physiology and often psych to go with it. It's a tool, not a silver bullet

You could definitely go back to your old ways once you come off of the drug, but I truly believe for most people, it’s a way of helping them develop better eating habits, so that when they come off of it, they continue

In 2022 I spent six months on Ozempic and lost 40 kg. Stopped taking it after those six months. Have maintained my new weight since. Of course I didn't rely on the GLP-1 by itself. I used it to change my lifestyle. Ozempic let me overhaul my eating habits, and watching the weight come off motivated me to get active. Lifestyle changes in my case included using smaller crockery (to help trick my brain on portion control), and while I still enjoy "stuffing my face" especially in front of the television (muscle memory is hard to beat!), I've replaced unhealthy snacks with healthy ones. Admittedly that comes at a cost: a bag of chips is much cheaper than a large punnet of blueberries! But I'm fortunate enough to be able to buy whatever healthy and delicious food I feel like at any given moment. That helped too. A lot. I managed to "rewire" my brain, in a manner of speaking. Walked 10 km daily in those first six months. Nowadays it's more like 5 km, five times a week. That gives me the freedom to enjoy the occasional junk food without the weight creeping back. The drug did some of the heavy lifting, but you need to meet it half-way! And before you @ me for losing too much too quickly: I saw my GP regularly throughout, monitored side effects, and sought ongoing advice from a pharmacist as well as a little input from a dietary specialist.

I've lost 10kg in 5 weeks since starting. The doctor says once I have hit my goal weight then I drop down to the lowest mg of 0.25 for maintenance.

Unless you change eating habits then you will regain weight. It has nothing to do with stopping the meds. Choose whole foods.

What don’t people understand just weigh and track your food once you get off it, eat at maintenance and u won’t even gain the weight back. I’m 52kg and eat like shit but I don’t gain weight bc I track my calories and make sure to eat Atleast 100g protein a day

For some people they have gained weight over 15-20 years, a kilo or 2 a year. Shifting it in a year and going back to old habits would be fine. Even with no lifestyle changes putting on 10kg over 7-8 years and getting back on the gear for 6 months would be easy.
