I've been thinking about this and how much gender is an association of symbols. Womanhood is associated with certain things without being defined by those things (skirts, the color pink, long hair etc.) All those elements can be missing in a woman, but they're still elements associated with the gender. The same way a red apple on a desk are associated with teachers, and you may use a red apple on a desk in a story to hint that a teacher is present. Xenogenders work this way, to me. People feel that certain things are symbolic of their gender. Those things can be used to mean their gender.

not even some of my closest friends know i want to go by entity as a xenogender and pronouns but i know damn right i probably sound corny as hell and a lot of people wont accept ne so i just say im agender, my gender feels like the unknown and like shadows bro
