Not twice. Three times. We were begging for help. The emergency number (999) finally resulted in officers arriving an HOUR later. By then, the robbers had already escaped. That experience left me asking: what is the purpose of having emergency services if they cannot respond when people need them most? It often feels like law enforcement is always quick to show up for political functions or events involving influential people, yet ordinary citizens are left waiting during life-threatening emergencies. Instead of feeling protected, many of us are made to feel like we're the inconvenience for asking for help. I live in town. The police station is roughly a walking distance of 15 minutes from my house, yet it took an hour to respond to an active home invasion. That delay could have cost lives. This isn't just about my family. It's about every ordinary emaSwati who expects that, when they dial 999 in a moment of fear, someone will come before it's too late. No one should feel that their safety depends on whether they are wealthy, connected, or politically important. Every citizen deserves the same urgency, the same protection, and the same respect.
