I don’t know who needs to hear this but STOP being helpful at work. Seriously… You think being the "reliable one" is helping your career. It's not. While you're drowning in everyone else's urgent requests, your mediocre colleagues are protecting their time and getting promoted. "Can you cover this meeting?" "Quick favor…can you review this?" "I know you're busy, but could you help with..." Every time you say yes, you're training people that your time isn't valuable. Every time you stay late finishing your actual work because you spent the day on favors, you're proving you can't manage priorities. Every time you sacrifice your deadlines to help someone else meet theirs, you're positioning yourself as “support staff” Here's the uncomfortable truth: Your ADHD brain makes you desperate to avoid rejection, so you say yes to everything. But the people getting ahead? They understand something you don't (yet): Being helpful doesn't make you valuable. Being irreplaceable does. And you can't become irreplaceable if you're constantly available for everyone else's problems. Now, I’m not saying to become mean or selfish. Don’t get me wrong there. I’m just saying to become more strategic about when, how, and why you help people. Which could mean telling someone: "Hey, I’d love to help. I'm focused on X project this week, but I could look at this on Friday." And suddenly? People respect your time instead of abusing it.
