I’m a Tea Sommelier and welcome to Matcha Mondays, my weekly matcha series where I make drinks using my special edition matcha. This is a Matcha Shakerato. A shakerato is a shaken iced coffee drink but instead of espresso, I’m using matcha. It takes about a minute to make. The drink is frothy, sweet, and refreshing. It’s a fun matcha mocktail since it’s perfect for serving in a martini glass or a coupe glass. Put matcha, sugar, and hot water into a cocktail shaker. You don’t need to sift the matcha with the cocktail shaker method. Use water that’s 176°F. There is such a big taste difference between using cold water and hot water. I tested this recipe using cold water and the matcha just did not taste as good so you have to use hot water for a more balanced and nutty flavor. Shake for 30 seconds. I like to take a look to make sure there aren’t any clumps. Open up the cocktail shaker and add ice. This is to quickly cool down the drink. Shake for another 30 seconds. Pour the drink into a coupe glass, making sure to get every little bit of foam, but not the ice. Is it as good as it looks? Yup. Matcha Shakerato ½ cup hot water (176°F) 2 teaspoons matcha 1 tablespoon sugar ½ cup ice Combine matcha, sugar, and hot water into a cocktail shaker. Shake for 30 seconds or until you don’t see any clumps. Add ice and shake for another 30 seconds. Pour the drink into a coupe glass, making sure to get the matcha froth but not the ice. #matcha #matchatea #matcharecipe #matchatok #shakerato
