🚨 The #1 mistake dog owners make with hot spots? They keep treating the wound... but they don't stop the licking. A hot spot can go from a small irritated patch to a large, raw wound in just a couple of days. Here's what I do when I notice one early: ✔️ Trim the hair around the area so moisture doesn't get trapped. ✔️ Clean the spot with chlorhexidine to help remove bacteria and debris. ✔️ Allow the area to dry completely before applying anything. ✔️ Apply a thin layer of plain coconut oil to help soothe irritated skin. ✔️ Use a cone or recovery collar if your dog won't leave it alone. The reality is that many hot spots start because of allergies, excessive licking, trapped moisture, fleas, or underlying skin irritation. If you don't address the cause, they often come right back. ⚠️ If the area is large, oozing pus, has a foul odor, or your dog seems painful, it's time to see your veterinarian. Have you ever dealt with a hot spot? What ended up causing it?
