Recognizable by its distinctive inverted gull wings and fixed landing gear, the Ju 87 became a symbol of the German Blitzkrieg strategy, delivering highly accurate dive-bombing attacks against enemy positions. What made the Stuka truly unforgettable was its “Jericho Trumpet” siren. As the aircraft dived toward its target, the siren produced a terrifying wailing sound designed to spread panic among enemy troops even before the bombs struck. Although devastating in the early years of the war, the Ju 87’s relatively slow speed and limited defensive capabilities made it vulnerable once the Allies gained air superiority. It was later reassigned to ground-attack and anti-tank missions, where it continued to serve effectively until the end of the war.
