Meteorologists warn that the worst haze conditions usually occur between July and October, with smoke from fires in Sumatra and Kalimantan potentially drifting into Peninsular Malaysia and Sarawak. In preparation, the Fire and Rescue Department has placed more than 24,000 personnel on standby, expanded drone operations, and suspended leave for 80% of its active firefighters during the high-risk period.
