@healthy_mays: 🔥 HOT FLUSHES AREN'T JUST A HORMONE PROBLEM 🔥 One of the biggest misconceptions I hear from women in perimenopause is that hot flushes happen simply because oestrogen is low. The reality is more complex. During perimenopause, oestrogen doesn't just decline. It fluctuates dramatically. One day it's high. The next it crashes. These fluctuations affect the hypothalamus, your bodies thermostat. As oestrogen becomes more unpredictable, the hypothalamus becomes more sensitive to tiny changes in body temperature. Your brain suddenly thinks you're overheating when you're not. To cool you down, it triggers: ➡️ Blood vessels dilate ➡️ Heart rate increases ➡️ Sweating begins ➡️ You experience a hot flush This is why hot flushes can appear out of nowhere, even after a 5-minute walk or while doing nothing! But hormones aren't the only piece of the puzzle. I often see worse symptoms in women with: ✔️ High stress ✔️ Blood sugar instability ✔️ Poor sleep ✔️ Excess alcohol ✔️ High caffeine intake ✔️ Chronic inflammation ✔️ Poor hormone detoxification ✔️ MCAS caused by mould, heavy metals or parasites That's because cortisol, insulin, inflammation, and nervous system dysregulation all affect how the brain responds to temperature changes. So what can help? Supporting blood sugar balance is one of the first places I start. Reducing glucose spikes and crashes can significantly reduce the frequency and intensity of symptoms. Stress management is just as important because elevated cortisol makes the nervous system more reactive. I also focus on liver health and hormone metabolism, making sure oestrogen is processed efficiently while supporting overall hormonal resilience through nutrition, movement, sleep, and targeted supplementation where appropriate. The goal isn't just to survive perimenopause. It's to understand what your body is asking for and support it through the transition. A smooth transition is absolutely possible with the right support.
