Amongst other reasons 🤫 🤣 China feels like one of the safest countries I’ve travelled through… and after a while you start noticing why. It’s not just that there are CCTV cameras everywhere in China, it’s the amount of them. In the UK you might see one camera on a street corner. Here, there’ll be four cameras attached to the same pole… then another set directly across the road. Train stations, apartment blocks, traffic lights, convenience stores — the surveillance in China is on another level. Walking through cities like Guangzhou and Chongqing, at 2am feels strangely normal because violent crime rates in China are incredibly low compared to a lot of Western countries. People leave scooters unlocked, phones sitting on tables, and nobody seems remotely stressed about it. But the trade-off is obvious. China’s facial recognition systems and AI surveillance technology are some of the most advanced in the world. As a traveller, its hard to not notice And I always get nervous after staring directly at them 😆 You do start wondering though… are people behaving because they’re respectful, or because 400 cameras just watched them buy noodles? Either way, China is one of the safest and most technologically advanced places I’ve visited — just don’t expect to disappear into the crowd. China travel, life in China, CCTV in China, facial recognition China, Chinese technology, surveillance in China, travelling China, Guangzhou China, Chongqing China, Shanghai China, China safety, crime rate in China, digital surveillance, AI technology China, modern China #bored #china #chinatravel #TravelChina #backpackingasia
