as a giver, i thrive on gifting people things without expecting anything in return. but, that 1% where i'm stuck in my head and i'm spiraling, i realize that i never get anything. and as much as it doesn't bother me in the moment, when my depression hits, it bothers me a lot.

My mom told me "poor him" when I was showing him all the gifts I got him and I'm still finishing, I asked "why?" and she said "poor him because what is he going to do for YOUR birthday?" (as in I set the bar high) and I said "a letter is more than enough". And now I don't even know if we'll be together by my birthday, maybe not even for his... I screw everything up. My mom was right, poor him for having me in his life.

My husband asked our one daughter that. I needed her to learn it on her own the way I did. It’s not the expectation of something in return it’s the effort. Eventually she realized it and did so long before I did

Or when I got home from school on my birthday, and my mom asked me what my friends got me… (it’s a tradition at my school for girls to buy eachother flowers and other gifts on their birthdays, and I always make sure to get my friends a gift. I didn’t even get a single card.)

I got my ex possibly the most thoughtful gift after we broke up, without asking him, bc I wanted to be nice and I was abroad. He was also abroad in a different country and I had to ask him to get something for me and then he didn’t even know what I would like. It made me feel really great since we dated for over a year and a half and he didn’t know what I’d like🤗
