We butchered our first Kamakura day trip. And I mean completely We didn’t understand the layout, didn’t group anything properly, and somehow spent most of the day on trains and walking without even making it to the temples! We basically saw the main area near the beach… and that was it Kamakura looks close on a map, but it’s stretched out. If you don’t plan it by area, you’ll zigzag all day and miss the best parts entirely. We learned that the hard way, so we mapped it properly and now we’re sharing it with you! 🚂 AREA 1: KAMAKURA STATION (CENTRAL) Best place to start. * Komachi Street (food + shops) * Tsurugaoka Hachimangū Shrine Do this first while it’s quieter 🗿AREA 2: HASE This is where most people lose time if they don’t plan. * Great Buddha (Kōtoku-in) * Hasedera Temple These are close together, always group them 🌲 AREA 3: KITA-KAMAKURA (OPTIONAL) Only add this if you have time. * Engaku-ji * Kenchō-ji Skip if you’re feeling rushed. 🌊 AREA 4: THE BEACH (OPTIONAL) Nice, but non-essential. * Yuigahama Beach This is the first thing we’d cut if time is tight. ⏰ HOW LONG TO ALLOW • Half day: Central + Hase • Full day: Add one optional area Trying to do everything is what causes people to miss… everything 🚆 GETTING THERE • From Tokyo: 1 hour • JR Yokosuka Line or JR Shonan-Shinjuku Line • No JR Pass needed ⚠️ IMPORTANT TOP TIP Avoid weekends if you can
Kamakura gets packed on Saturdays and Sundays - trains, streets, and temples included. Weekdays are supposed to be a lot calmer and more enjoyable #japan #kamakura #tokyo #tokyodaytrip
