To give you an opposing perspective. When I was in 8th /9th grade. I moved from Illinois, to Nevada and they put me in “remedial” (not sure if that’s the right word) classes. When I told my mom, she did nothing. I had to advocate for myself to get ADVANCED PLACEMENT instead because I was way ahead of my class in every grade. I routinely got 100% in ALL classes. I WISH I had a parent to advocate for me. So unfortunately, I will be the parent that advocates for my kids.

It's doing such a disservice to your kids too. It's taking away the chance for personal growth.

Because of friends no, but my 8th grader got put in a class that was not one of the options that she had picked that required significant after school commitment of leaving the school grounds to perform other places. The g/t counselor gave me so much sass about asking if there was any other class she could be moved to. She said I had to get approval from the other counselor and that it would be a whole big deal. We walked to the other counselor’s office, told her the predicament, she asked what class my daughter wanted to be in and we told her, she updated the system and printed the schedule right there. In and out in like 3 minutes. Sometimes it’s frustrating when there is a legit problem and you aren’t heard though.

Making a request isn’t the same as feeling entitled, although I’m sure there are cases where it is true.

I'm going to weigh in. My child had a teacher a couple of years ago, who'd recently been hired to teach four grade levels below what she previously had. But she was still teaching at the previous grade level. The children were struggling, especially mine. I had him moved. Then he excelled. Within a week multiple students from her class were moved into my son's new class. My only priority is my child and sometimes the wrong teacher can ruin an childs education. We gave her 4 weeks, and had multiple meetings about it. a first grader should not be taught like a 5th grader, and should not have hours of homework every single day.
