I have astigmatism and something else, every time I go get my eyes checked with the optometrist or an ophthalmologist, I loathe those eye exams with lights. I have migraines and I my eyes cannot stand the lights!

Yes it is , for me moving anything close to my eyes. Is very painful sharp pain behind the eyes. Anything reflecting light or color changes makes it my migraine worse and I see black and white.

I really would like to know where that word comes from – photophobia? Honestly, it’s probably one of the most confusing and offensive words I’ve come across being a legally blind person and also a person with migraines. It is not a fear of light. It is a sensitivity to light. Another words photo sensitive. It really bothers me how this word is even used anymore because it’s a misnomer. Phobias our fears of things it’s a psychiatric word. I have never heard it more than on TikTok being actually the sensitivity of light. It really does bother me that people use it. And this is something I even correct my doctors on. I’m photos sensitive not photophobic. My boyfriend would say the same thing.
