“They say they work to protect women and girls.” Reform UK’s pledge to “protect women” is being questioned after footage has emerged showing a protester having her face grabbed, hair pulled and being struck with what appears to be a walking crotch. The woman, who was part of a group of climate activists who shouted out during Nigel Farage’s speech on Friday, claimed to LBC that the Reform leader and members of the audience are “inciting this violence by celebrating assaults like the one I experienced”. “They say they work to protect women and girls, yet they assault us when we try to criticise them,” the 27-year-old said. The woman said audience members “very quickly became very aggressive”, telling Metro: “They started pushing us. Somebody pulled my hair. Somebody grabbed my head, and somebody was holding me by the jaw.” The woman, who has not been named, slammed Reform UK MP Lee Anderson for joking to “buy a new cane for the man who assaulted me, which I think is simply pathetic”. Reform MP Robert Jenrick dismissed the incident when questioned by LBC’s Lewis Goddall who suggested the response was “heavy handed” and “disproportionate”. “What do you expect them to do?” he replied. When the journalist pointed out that the protester “probably didn’t need to be clubbed with a crutch”, Mr Jenrick said: “I don’t know how sympathetic I am towards that person. Not at all.” He added that she was now “moaning that a pensioner knocked her on the head”.
