Seated leg raises are actually a really useful exercise if your goal is compression strength—the ability to actively pull your thighs toward your torso while keeping your trunk rigid. That carries over especially well to L-sits, V-sits, pike compression, high kicks, gymnastics/calisthenics, and even tennis movements where you need strong trunk–hip coordination. For your abs, they train more than just “feeling a burn.” Your rectus abdominis and deeper core have to brace hard to keep your pelvis and spine from getting pulled forward by your legs, while your hip flexors actively lift them. Done correctly, the big benefit is learning to keep the ribs down and pelvis controlled while the legs move—which is a very athletic kind of core strength. For low-back health, they can help indirectly by improving trunk control, hip-flexor strength through an active range, and your ability to resist excessive lumbar extension. But they’re not automatically a low-back-pain exercise. If your back arches, you lean way backward, or you feel the movement predominantly in your lumbar spine, they can actually irritate an already-sensitive back. A good rep should feel like: sit tall, brace your abs, slightly tuck/control the pelvis, then lift the legs without your lower back changing shape much. Even raising one leg at a time or bending the knees initially is worthwhile. Over time, progress toward straighter legs, higher lifts, slower reps, and pauses at the top. One important distinction: compression strength ≠ just strong hip flexors. The magic is having enough abdominal strength, hip-flexor strength, hamstring mobility, and pelvic control to “close the gap” between your torso and thighs. #abs #abworkouts #pelvicfloor #kneepain #trending
