@ella_alshamahi: The biggest news since they sequenced the Neanderthal genome… if IF it’s correct. Truthfully we don’t really understand what is going on here but none of the 20 adults and children tested had the male protein the researchers were looking for. Is it a biological anomaly with this species (males just don’t have it)… or are we really saying a species with a small brain was capable of this and was doing something that we then don’t see again for 295,000 years?? Continued in comments… #anthropology

You seem to imply they did not bury their males. Is that what you are saying?

Very interesting, a lot of academic archeological consensus is still mostly theoretical. Just one detailed look back at a lot of our past always looks through the Darwin lens, which is becoming more redundant in my opinion than we might really know.

Fascinating. The more we learn, the less we know.

It's not 'bonkers'. It's Homosapien arrogance that leads to believe other Homo species weren't capable of complex social and cultural behavior.

There’s a fantastic documentary on Netflix about Homo naledi. It’s called “ unknown cave of bones” worth a watch 👍🏼

I thought the evidence of burial was thrown out by the scientific community? I'm still going with other humans chaded them in the cave explicitly to kill them with fire and as we see in Israel you want a genocide you imprison the males and kill the females

I did see something relating to I archaeological site the was dated to about 300,000 years ago but other than that it was pretty vague

Comment 1: It is important to say that the conclusion of burial at this site is still not completely accepted but imo it is getting harder and harder to argue against it.

Comment 2: The team behind Homo naledi have been criticised on occasion for what some might say is over interpreting but the methodology here is solid.

So what you’re saying is that maybe our evolution is much more complex and maybe our branch isn’t the only one that is culturally developed?

This is really cool news. I think the confusion comes from modern assumptions about consciousness, culture, and where religion comes from. People talk about complex consciousness as a suite of characteristics where we tend to use modern human consciousness as the litmas test. An example would be the mirror test, it's like oh humans can recognize ourselves in mirrors therefore if something can do that it has consciousness if it can't it doesn't. But consciousness evolved like anything else evolved. Meaning what we'd expect to see are varying degrees of consciousness in other lifeforms that might not be like our own narrow constrained view. Like plants can see using rudimentary eyes (light receptive cells) and talk to each other through root networks. We need to start looking for insights into these things outside of our species. We also see pseudo religious behavior in other animals. Elephant graveyards and them mourning their dead, chimps have been observed seemingly experiencing awe at places like waterfalls. Ritual and tradition comes from our ancestors and our ancestors were not always homo sapiens. I really hope we get some more cool discoveries like this to help us better understand where we come from, where consciousness and where religion and culture come from.

Ever stood in the shadow of a giant and felt insignificant, yet oddly invincible? Vidraru Dam at sunset is less a panorama and more a visceral epiphany, a colossus of steel sinew and poured concrete ribcage, clawing at the spine of the Făgăraș Mountains. At 166 meters tall and 307 meters long, this is no polite postcard—it’s a scar across the land, audacious and unashamed, gilded by the last exhale of daylight as if even the sun itself cannot resist tracing every brutal angle with molten gold. Here, numbers don’t just quantify—they haunt: 465,000 cubic meters of concrete, 42 kilometers of water stretching like a glass blade behind the dam, enough power generated to hush a city’s hunger for light. There’s a terrible, beautiful symmetry to it, the way man’s ambition becomes a monolith, a cathedral for the secular age, outlasting faith, outmuscling rivers, a thunderous statement that even mountains must occasionally bend the knee. In this twilight, the dam is a beast half-awake, basking, not caring if you stand in awe or fear. But what do you see reflected in the water when the sky erupts in gold and umber? Do you marvel at the audacity, or mourn what was drowned to make this happen? What monuments will we leave, and will the world forgive us for our beautiful scars? Where else does the golden hour feel like a dare you’re not quite brave enough to accept?
