We’ve reached a point where people are more impressed by how fast someone finishes hifdh than by how well they preserve, understand, implement, and recite the Qur’an. The Salaf did not treat the Qur’an like a race. The Prophet ﷺ received the Qur’an over 23 years. عبدالله بن عمر رضي الله عنهما took years to complete Surah Al-Baqarah because they prioritized understanding, implementation, and perfection over rushing. Today, many people can “finish” quickly… but struggle to retain, recite correctly, or stay consistent afterward. I’m not a prodigy, and I never claimed to be one. My journey had struggles, gaps, mistakes, and lessons that shaped how I now teach Qur’an. That’s why with my students, quality comes before quantity. We focus on strong foundations, proper tajweed, consistency, and recitation that actually stays with you. Because the goal is not to simply say “I finished.” The goal is to become someone who lives with the Qur’an.
