unfortunately yes, the longer you hold that person–the more both of you will suffer. For you, you will suffer because of the thought na you don't love them THE SAME anymore but choosing to stay than grieve losing them (which is hard btw since it's NOT love anymore, it's more of a responsibility in order to not get yourself hurt). FOR THEM, they will suffer from the thought that you simply don't love them the same. In short, it's selfish because you choose yourself to be comfortable while other people may suffer, you can argue that there is nothing wrong in choosing yourself and I would still agree, different experience = different choice.

i think the selfish part comes afterwards, when we already lost them cuz seeing the version of them after losing them feels like a gut punch na oh bat parang mas okay ka nung wala kana sa presence ko type shi and especially if you got replaced already cuz it makes you want them even more to yourself "na sana ako nalang at ako padin" and u will look for a way to try to be better for that person just to have them within your grasp even if that cost you losing yourself in the process but at the end of the day people will come and go so just accept it as fast as possible, it's never gonna be easy letting go of something what's ours in the first place or is it even ours to begin with..?
