Lidl’s American week always makes me laugh. I’m a Canadian, so close enough to know the difference 😄

If you'd ask me to name USA food that's not just fast food corporations... I'd say ranch dressing. Only thing I could think of. There's certainly bunch of food originating from the USA but can't just think any 😅

I get your argument. However, I’m vegetarian, and that KFC veggie snacker is delicious. I had KFC for the first time in almost 20 years here because I had an option vs back home in the states.

KFC in France is so boring. And it’s mostly tenders. You can’t just get a bucket of chicken. 😭

Even if it's the same chain. The food has to be localized, otherwise sales will stagnate. In Finland, they tried to import the German Lidl chain as it is in Germany. The end result was that they were forced to sell other Finnish products and change the payment methods to the ones commonly used in Finland. At first, Lidl did not allow credit cards, for example. or they didn't have the option to pack at checkout, it didn't work in Finland.

This! I moved from Canada to Sweden and recently we tried KFC .. no biscuits or porato purée 😭 .. we had coleslaw though. But yeah, didn’t have the full experience I know and remember from years ago 🥲

I made some chicken fried steak with the white gravy a few weeks ago and that's something that not only can't be found in Finland but also confuses people as a concept 😂

your TV shows and movies don't help. they don't show the variation of food culture. I've learned so much from the internet about soul food, midwestern cooking and other regional varietes.

I just buy the large bucket of chicken at KFC and make my own sides at home now 😂. I guess it's kind of healthier at least.

It's funny how the American fast food chains always miss the items I love the most when they come to Finland. No Locos Tacos and Fiesta Potatoes, no Popcorn Chicken and Chicken Pot Pie, no breakfast burritos, no hash browns, no McGriddles, no... well, you get the point. 😅 They're just not the same taste wise anyway. Though, having grown up with McDonald's, I prefer the Finnish version of their stuff.

Recently moved to Australia and we tried KFC here too! The chicken is better, but the sides are missing that American flair. All the food we’ve had here is amazing and high quality, but execution matters so much

Diner food. Available across the US, and NOBODY gets it right or even really thinks of it when they think of American food. I get so homesick for a good diner

Buffalo Grill in France is surprisingly really close to some of the most authentic American food I've had in Europe that compares to eating in the USA.

KFC with a side of coleslaw and a side of mash n gravy is elite. The UK does t do mash n gravy like in South Africa, it’s just gravy here.

And Taco Bell here doesn’t have refried beans. It’s so tragic. And I get that it’s not good Mexican food, but being here it would still be a taste of home and the lack of beans just makes it worthless to me.

When i think of american food, i think of fast food but also bbq. Of course it’s not that simple, in my opinnion the american food culture is a mix of all immigrants that have moved there across the centuries and brought their food culture with them and adapted it to their new home and produce available. In my opinnion one good example is chicken parm.

This is really true. I grew up eating southern food and think it's genuinely an amazing cuisine but it's impossible to find outside the US as are many classic American dishes I love. The things labeled "American" here in Germany are hamburgers, pancakes and that's about it. The worst part is when acquaintances make snide comments about my home country's cuisine in a way that frankly they never would about almost anywhere else.

I do love me some German KFC but there are days I would give my soul for a good biscuit. Germany doesn’t really do biscuits 😞
