Newborn care specialist here. Everyone keeps missing the actual science here. Stainless steel is a highly efficient heat conductor, so it doesn’t need to get nearly as hot on the outside to warm the milk to the same temperature as a plastic bottle. Plastic is a poor conductor, so the outside has to get much hotter before the heat even reaches the milk.That’s why the exterior of a stainless steel bottle basically reflects the milk temperature, while plastic doesn’t. Stainless steel warms fast and cools fast because it transfers heat evenly. Plastic warms slowly and stays hot longer because it holds heat.So yes, stainless steel bottles are safer and more predictable. The outside won’t be hotter than the milk, and it won’t keep heating once removed. This is literally just how the materials work. Now if you want to make a point about not being able to see the contents of the milk to know how much was poured effectively I can agree and understand that claim. But the claim people are falsely making when they don’t understand thermodynamics is incorrect.

High-quality food-grade (304 or 316 / 18-8) stainless steel bottles are completely safe, corrosion-resistant, and do not leach harmful chemicals into plain water. However, cheaply manufactured unregulated bottles or using low-grade steel with hot/acidic liquids can result in trace micro-metal release or lead contamination in rare instances.

I would be prepared to have daycare say they can’t take them. We have to be able to see into the bottle and we have to have a clear visual of how many OZ are in the bottle and how many OZ they took. We don’t have time to get out a food scale and we can’t open the bottles.

I’m an Infant teacher and these are a great idea for parents who don’t like plastic bottles, however as teaches we need to be able to see how many oz of milk the bottles start at and how much the baby drinks or dosent drink so we can let the parents know! But these are definitely good for at home use!

I wouldn’t be able to see how much was left after the bottle expired but as long as you’re comfortable with not knowing how much your kid ate then yeah why not.

It's not safe to handle food, bottles, formula, breastmilk with long or artificial nails. Much more of a risk than plastic bottles. I do like the stainless steel bottles if you are going to use bottles 👍

as a provider i would not use a bottle if you can't see the flow or substance in it. At home do what you want, but I wouldn't in my program

or use silicone so that you have bottles that aren't getting way too hot and that way you have bottles that the teachers can actually see. although my daycare does allow glass bottles but parents have to understand that there's a risk with those

as a infant teacher glass bottles are allowed just have to have a silicone cover over the bottle😍love when parent's use the glass bottles

I always tell my parents that we can’t have glass UNLESS it has a silicone cover on it . I love the glass bottles.

most daycares r logging how much baby is drinking each bottle !! a lot of daycares would likely turn these away bc these make it tricky 2 keep parents in the loop. good alternative 2 plastic but prob better for home than daycare!!
