@thebloodmysteries: There is a reason so many women feel an undeniable longing for fragrant oils, ritual bathing, jewelry, beautiful garments, mirrors, flowers, and the slow devotional act of tending to the body. I do not believe these longings are superficial. I believe they are ancestral. For thousands of years, women passed down traditions of sacred adornment from mother to daughter, priestess to initiate. The body was understood as the first altar, and the act of anointing, braiding the hair, placing gold upon the wrists, adorning the ears, perfuming the skin, and preparing oneself before entering the day were all woven into a spiritual understanding of what it meant to inhabit a feminine body. Then, over generations, many of these practices were severed from their original context. Beauty was recast as vanity. Fragrance became indulgence. Adornment became associated with temptation rather than consecration. Women were taught to distrust what their ancestral mothers once practiced with devotion. Every time a woman anoints herself with reverence rather than criticism, every time she chooses her adornment as an act of devotion rather than performance, she participates in the restoration of a lineage that many of our ancestral mothers were never given the freedom to inherit. Sacred adornment is not simply about reclaiming beauty. It is about reclaiming a way of being in relationship with the body that remembers it has always been holy. Sister, I heard your words about adornment and, this weekend, I chose to wear the jewelry and perfumes I wanted to wear but was too afraid of being seen as “doing too much” or “showing off” etc etc. I got such lovely compliments! On my jewelry, on the colour of my clothes, etc. Many smiles from strangers. Thank you!

This is why Yahweh did away with tattoos. The High Priestess of Egypt were tatted. I’m under the belief the long haired, tattooed Ancient Pict warriors were also Black Women. The Long Haired Pharaoh’s. The undoinging of this was by Moses. Abraham, Isaac and Jacob warned us!

This resonates with me deeply and I have experienced it personally. I so wish I could reconnect with my African lineage prior to America.
