@drdavidabbasi: High diving puts the human body through forces most people never experience outside of a car crash. The deceleration on water entry at extreme heights can exceed 50 G's, and the difference between a clean entry and a catastrophic injury comes down to body alignment in the final milliseconds before impact. Divers train obsessively to enter water with their body rigid and perfectly vertical because that position distributes the impact force evenly across the skeleton. Any deviation concentrates that force into a single joint or segment of the spine, which is exactly how cliff and platform divers suffer compression fractures, shoulder dislocations, and spinal injuries. The height is terrifying. The physics underneath it is even more unforgiving. I jumped about 100 foot off the top fall at Tahquamenon Falls Michigan. It's pretty intense jumping that high into a thing of water the size of a back yard pool, and going down so far that you blow out a couple bubbles to make sure your going the right way!
