@hackproduct9: Every large-scale app eventually becomes an event delivery system. Whether it’s Uber sending ride updates, Stripe firing payment webhooks, Slack delivering notifications, or Netflix tracking viewing activity, the pattern is remarkably similar: ➡️ Produce events ➡️ Ingest reliably ➡️ Stream at scale ➡️ Process in real time ➡️ Deliver to multiple destinations Understanding this mental model makes dozens of distributed system interview questions much easier to reason about. A few design principles I always keep in mind: • Never let producers know who the consumers are. • Make events immutable and append-only. • Design for retries—assume failures happen. • Idempotency is non-negotiable. • Dead Letter Queues (DLQs) save production systems. • Monitoring is part of the architecture, not an afterthought. • Reliability beats cleverness in distributed systems. Instead of memorizing architectures, learn the flow. Once this pattern clicks, systems like Kafka, SNS/SQS, EventBridge, RabbitMQ, Pulsar, and many internal event buses start making intuitive sense. More system design mental models coming soon.
