@chrisexleymoneygeek: Stamp Duty and Council Tax are outdated… That’s my honest view. But is an annual progressive property tax the right solution. It’s not expected to raise any more money, but because it’ll tax empty land more heavily - it could replace both and fuel the housing market. Please be aware that this has popped up in a few papers but it’s nothing official yet, and you’d think such significant changes would need quite a runway. The biggest issue for me is Stamp Duty - I see it cause so many problems. If you want to learn more - Google search ‘Fair Share Manifesto’. So how is it "fairer" to the millions who are asset rich, cash poor? No government, ever, anywhere has tried to make the tax system "fairer".

It’s total BS. They’ll introduce this tax, without anyone voting for it. Then they’ll slowly start to reintroduce a minor council tax and stamp duty. Eventually triple dip

Why should I pay tax on a property or land that I already own and also paid stamp duty on when I bought it.. so effectively I get taxed ontop of tax…arguably the tax increases as my property increases in value…

So you can have the same house in London and the south and pay more than if you had one in the Midlands but we all use the same council services woyks be better by number of people using the services in the house

Two problems straight away! Why should people pay more because they live in the south? You paid more and had to work harder or longer already. Second an extra tax may be unaffordable to thousands of homeowners. Where might many find an extra £2500 annual tax? A fair system would be a nationwide single tax based on property size (square feet) and the number of occupants over 18
