@ginnyleads: Companies built DEI programs because they were sued into it. Pressured by social movements and forced by law. When that pressure changed direction, corporate behavior changed just as fast. That speed tells us something uncomfortable about whether these initiatives were ever really embedded — or just performative. The debate was never really "diversity versus merit." The real question: did our systems ever measure merit at all? Full video on YT. ■ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gXhtnu4nEjs
The state of CA just implemented anonymous merit based review procedures for interviews. This would be a good way to spread merit based systems

As a DEI advocate and believer, I felt this when implementing strategies. I’m currently working inside an organization that is walking the talk. It isn’t easy and yet the amazing group of humans are committed. They don’t have all the answers and are working together to work through it. I appreciate you providing more context.

At this point, I think the law of diminishing returns can be applied to all movements, social or corporate...the sustainability of change has to be based in morality and true equity which is the hardest change, unfortunately.
