For those who don't know: In 2024, the federation chose him as head coach without a regular selection process, bringing immediate protests from fans. To make matters worse, it was revealed he was paid a massive 3.8 billion won. On the pitch, his poor tactics failed and wasted most of the players' talent. Despite heavy criticism and poor match results, the coach refused to change his tactics over the next two years, even blaming the players for the failures. Meanwhile, the federation ignored the fans and the results, in the end ruining the World Cup.

I get both sides honestly but it’s not like he was completely unqualified. The dude was a former football player. There may be nepotism involved, yes, but then again, can you say with absolute certainty that if the coach were a different person and had lost the same way, they wouldn’t be treating him just as badly?

as an Ulsan fan, this is the worst nightmare🤡 but I do not agree on Youngwoo being blamed. there's no one else as good as youngwoo in the KNT currently for the right back. and he spoke up against HMB during his interviews so pls don't include him into the nepotism 😭😭

there’s definitely corruption behind him but the way he’s being used as a scapegoat for the players is insane. france 2006 proved that even with a dogshit coach you can do wonders. This team lacked spirit to an extreme degree. it’s not enough to have 1-2 stellar players to succeed. prime messi’s argentina was awful for example

koreans are exceptionally passionate about two things: national pride and “gapjil” (abuse of power). in this case, korea lost in humiliating fashion on the global stage due to nepotism—the perfect cocktail to become public enemy #1 there. a bit extreme, but there’s a cultural gap from the west due to korea’s unique dynamics between citizens and the rich/powerful.

the amount of people that seriously think korean fans are booing the players and that it not that serious have no idea what they are talking about and just want to have their biases against korean people confirmed. the KFA and South Korea have a major corruption and nepotism issue and this world cup incompetency is just one facet of the societal issues in korea at large
