As my daughter gets older, the more I realize there’s nothing for her past the point she’s at to buffer her from adulthood. It’s crazy that I can buy her an exact copy of my own outfits from the “big kids” section.

There is no pre-teen. I have to make do with adult sizes and look for modest styles. It’s everything too. Had to limit social media. It’s work though.

True! Having a difficult time finding appropriate tv, clothing, and music for my 12 yr old daughter 😩 she’s tired of watching the same younger shows but she’s not ready to relate to high school characters. Don’t get me started on crop tops!

We had a teen culture growing up. There isn’t one now. It merged into adulthood.

Right. That’s the issue. The preteens do not have a space.

I agree with you 100%. And it hadn’t occurred to me that I haven’t heard of any teen idols in a long time.

agreed on nowhere for them to go. Anyone else remember D.A.R.E. dances? We had them for 5-8th graders and we took over the community center. Clothes are so hard. Movies/tv shows are so hard. I argue with my kids on at least a weekly about what they can watch because there isn’t a middle. We watch a lot of old school shows because at least it was more pre-teen geared.

I was telling my son and niece about the teen clubs and they want to see a comeback so badly. I’ve never thought of this let’s leftover but you’re right, we’ve culturally erased preteen/teenhood and now wonder why kids act like adults so young.

So true. It's a sad state of affairs. They erased a whole section of childhood. So glad my kids are grown.

Exactly you could get into adult clubs at 18 you would just not get your hands down. You couldn’t go to the bar, but you were there with adults and they were adults to tell you to knock it off. If you were doing things you shouldn’t do.

It stopped selling all together because parents started giving in to the kids urge to move faster …we all wanted to buy the older clothes but there weren’t enough parents buying those clothes and taking us to teen clubs. The reality TV and social media age skipped the economy up and closed that pre-teen window!

Correct the clothing is built for littles or women. Not enough parents are policing or demanding more.

THIS! The fact that there is complete freedom on streaming platforms to watch anything and sometimes there is no warning. As a middle school teacher, the shows I hear students talking about, and even the books they are reading, is often appalling. They jump straight from kids stuff in elementary school to adult mature rated shows immediately. It is scary.
