This hit me harder than I expected. The saddest part is that I can comfort everyone else, but when it’s my turn, I become my own worst enemy. When someone I care about fails, I remind them that one mistake doesn’t define them, that they’re still worthy, that better days are coming. But when I fail, I convince myself that I’m a failure, that I’m behind in life, and that everyone else is moving forward except me. Depression has a cruel way of making you believe that your struggles are unique, that you’re the only one who’s stuck, the only one who isn’t enough. It whispers lies until you mistake them for your own thoughts. You start pouring so much love, patience, and understanding into everyone else that you forget to save any for yourself.Sometimes we carry the weight of the whole world for other people while silently drowning inside. We become experts at encouraging others but strangers to our own hearts. We speak kindness to everyone except the person who needs it most, ourselves.
Reading this made me realize that maybe healing begins when we start treating ourselves with the same compassion we freely give to others. Maybe we deserve the same patience, the same grace, and the same second chances. Because if the people we love aren’t defined by their worst days, then neither are we ❤️
