#FunFact
The International African American Museum that's found on the Gullah-Geechee corridor (specifically in Charleston, SC) has a Center for Family History that's actively helping Black Americans at large trace their lineage back to enslaved Africans from specific regions in Africa with international/domestic records tied to the era of slavery

I am Blackfeet, Cherokee, Choctaw and on my father's side I went back 17 generations. I am going to either hire someone or go directly to The Library of Congress, its to time consuming and drawn out online. Im still trying to figure out what made my grandpa leave the Blackfeet reservation in Montana and move to the southeast.

Manny Santiago :
Black American mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) is hard to trace because Africa is the most genetically diverse continent on Earth. Humanity lived there the longest, creating thousands of distinct ethnic groups. Additionally, the transatlantic slave trade mixed diverse maternal lines together, and historical records were destroyed by the institution of slaveryThe Transatlantic Slave Trade: Enslaved women were often separated from their families and moved around constantly (through both the transatlantic and domestic slave trades). This continuous movement scrambled traditional family lines and oral histories long before people arrived in the Americas

If your granny cooked okra and black eyed peas and knew about roots then you are of west African descent.. I know you guys may have got your feelings hurt online and decided to branch off and claim Native American smh I just want to know what books y’all reading that supersedes dna research? Understand culture food cannot be separated as well as language— and the majority of foods that black people eat in the Americas and Caribbean are derived from west and central Africa
