@conservative.pulse: One in four workers would be better off on benefits rather than working, according to research by The Centre for Social Justice. Speaking in Parliament, Conservative MP Rebecca Smith criticised the Labour government's welfare policies, including its removal of the two-child benefit cap, which she says was not in Labour's election manifesto. She argued that the current welfare system can leave some people better off on benefits than in work and called for a system that supports the most vulnerable while maintaining incentives to work. The report she references, produced by The Centre for Social Justice, states: - An economically inactive claimant on Universal Credit (UC) for ill health, receiving the average housing element and Personal Independence Payment, would receive an income of roughly £25,200, which is equivalent to a pre-tax salary of £30,100. - Comparing this to earnings distributions shows that around 6.2 million full-time workers (about 1 in 4) have a post-tax wage lower than these combined benefits. Wages are too low. Minimum wage has to be an actual living wage.

And that’s just financially. Ignoring the impact of work and stress on your health and body over prolonged periods of time. Not working and having time to cook cleanly and exercise regularly without the constant exhaustion from work is far better for your body! So when the financial difference is minimal remember that too! You’re working your ass to the bone for what?!?

Right, so raise wages. Problem solved... you can work full-time and still not be able to afford to live. That's the problem. Not the benefits

We get taxed on what we earn, taxed on what we buy with our already taxed money, then when we die it gets taxed again. Our money that we work hard for is 70-80% going to the government. What is the point.

Not just the extra money. It’s the other benefits like cold weather payments, energy company good will balance top ups, free prescriptions, govt cost of living crisis payments, free eye tests, vouchers towards glasses and free dental care. All this should be for the worker. Don’t work don’t get any of what I just mentioned. Pay for it out of your benefit money.

Single mum here, worked my way up. Just offered 45g a year, thought this was good jump from 24g a year. Nope I would be worse off, childcare element gone, housing help gone, school meals gone, uc top up gone, dentist gone. I worked it out I would be £68 quid WORSE OFF A MONTH
