Part 2 – The News She Was Never Meant to Hear Nearly three months had passed since that day. Three months since Film ended their relationship and disappeared without leaving a single trace. Namtan hadn't seen her ever since. Not in the campus hallways. Not in the cafeteria. Not in the library. Not even in the places they used to visit together. At first, Namtan couldn't help but hope. Every time she walked past the Faculty of Business, her eyes instinctively searched the crowd, hoping to catch a glimpse of the woman she had loved for years. But every single time... She found nothing. Film was truly gone. Eventually, Namtan threw herself into her studies. As a medical student preparing for her clinical rotations, her days became increasingly demanding. Lectures, laboratory sessions, endless assignments, and exam preparations left her with barely any time to breathe. Whenever she wasn't in class, she was in the library. She spent hours reading medical textbooks, summarizing chapters, memorizing anatomy, until the librarians had to remind her that the building was about to close. After that, she headed straight to the small café where she worked part-time. Although her full scholarship covered her tuition, she still had to earn enough to pay for rent, food, and her daily expenses. That became her life. Classes. Library. Work. Home. Then repeat. Thankfully... She wasn't completely alone. Pansa, Emi, and Janhae never left her side. They stayed with her during late-night study sessions, shared lecture notes, brought her meals whenever she forgot to eat, and sometimes even walked her to work when their schedules allowed. None of them ever told her to forget Film. They simply made sure she didn't have to carry her pain alone. --- One afternoon, the four of them were having lunch in the campus cafeteria when a conversation from the next table caught everyone's attention. "Hey, did you hear about Film?" "The engagement?" "Yeah. Apparently she's officially engaged to Nanon." "Isn't Nanon the son of one of her father's business partners?" "Exactly. No wonder both families approved right away." "It also explains why Film hasn't been seen on campus for months." "I heard she's transferring overseas. Supposedly she's continuing her studies abroad with Nanon." The glass in Namtan's hand slowly came to a stop. She lowered her gaze, pretending not to listen. But every word felt like another crack spreading through her heart. A female student then showed everyone an article on her phone. "Film Rachanun Mahawan is officially engaged to Nanon, the son of one of the Mahawan family's long-time business partners. The couple is also expected to continue their studies overseas." Namtan stared at the screen for a long moment. Suddenly... Everything made sense. No wonder she had never seen Film again. It wasn't because their schedules no longer matched. Film had already left the university. Left the city. And... Left her behind. Emi quietly reached under the table and held Namtan's hand. "Namtan..." Namtan turned toward her and forced a faint smile. "I'm okay." But Pansa and Janhae knew better. They had known Namtan long enough to recognize that smile. It wasn't relief. It was heartbreak hidden behind quiet acceptance. For the rest of lunch, none of them mentioned Film again. Instead, they talked about upcoming exams and clinical rotations, pretending everything was normal. Some wounds... Were better left untouched. That night, after finishing her shift at the café, Namtan found herself stopping in front of the small park where she and Film used to spend countless evenings together. She looked up at the night sky and let out a slow breath. "So..." "This is why I could never find you." A bitter smile appeared on her lips. "I hope you're happy, Film." The words were soft. Almost like a prayer. Yet with every wish she made for Film's happiness... A piece of her own heart quietly slipped away. #fiksi #au #alternativeuniverse #namtanfilm #filmrachanun
