So if I piss really fast the distance will shrink he’ll yeah

I really want to see what the future looks like. using this space contraction, if I fly for a while at 99.9 percent speed of light and then head back. i would have aged some years but earth would be hundreds of years in the future. but from earth perspective, I'm the guy that flew away hundreds of years ago?

GR breaks when you travel at the speed of light, which is why it’s flawed

I bet that the journey down to Cornwall would still feel like it takes an eternity if you were travelling close to the speed of light.

This reminds me of how it feels walking the same distance when I am in tons of pain and when in those few minutes of no pain - distance seems to change from miles to meters 😭

Question….what is the difference between artificial photons and natural photons. For example photons from a flashlight compared to photons from the sun. Thanks 👍

Science fiction always seems to ignore this. High speed journeys to distant stars or galaxies always take place in “real” time, both from the traveller’s and Earth’s point of view.

So theoretically from our reference point we would experience the trip to the other side of the universe as instantaneous if we could travel at the speed of light?

If anyone is wondering why this works in the first place, here is a bit more theoretical approach:since you must measure distances by observing the ends of a rod at t_1=t_2, wich means that t_1-(v/c²)x_1 must be equal to t_2-(v/c²)x_2. from this equality we can derive a definition fron delta t as: v/c²(x_1-x_2). Now we can just throw this delta t into your classic lorentz transformation and remember that relativistic distance is simply x'_2-x'_1 = gamma(delta x-(v²/c²)(delta x)). this quite beatifully simplyfies to delta x'=root(1-(v²/c²)) × delta x. since gamma^-1 is always less than one for all v

I read/saw somewhere that if you travelled at near the speed of light to the edge of our galaxy and back, foe you it would take 2 or 3 years (unsure time actually), but for people on earth 100,000 years would've past. its bonkers
