Hey! So I just went back on “Stelara” but one of the generics! The Stelara patent was up- and now they were able to make generic versions of it that are the exact same. I was allergic to humira also- and 2 other. It’s so much the same, that they said it’s an interchangeable medication now that like they can just switch it out to the generic version at the pharmacy without any doctor approval.

I’ve been trying to get approval for Stelara and was denied over and over. I finally got approval for another medication. I was also on remicade and that helped me so much but then it stopped working. I hope you can get the treatment you need. I completely understand what you are going through. I’ve been severely ill these last couple of months trying to get back on meds.

Ashley, have your doctors needs to write an appeal to the insurance company. They have to back you up. It’s all up to your doctor fighting with the insurance company right now. It’s a shame that we have people in suits sitting behind a desk telling these patients they don’t need these medications. Your doctor needs to say that it is a medical necessity. I will DM you what your doctor needs to say!!! So Sorry you’re going through this Ashley. This is part of the reason I left the health care field. Insurance companies are ridiculous.

you need your doctor to submit a Formulary Exception Request or Prior Authorization demonstrating "medical necessity." Because you've already tried the insurance-preferred drugs, your doctor can bypass this "step therapy" requirement

I’m not sure many understand the helplessness of this situation. Suggestions help but the amount of time it takes vs how quickly you need help is crazy. I’m just saying I see you and I hear you.

Humira did the same for me. The worst experience ever! Mesalamine tablets and suppositories worked for me. I was also told I needed to move to the generic Lialda for my tablets. Both worked great for me.

Try talking directly with the benefits department if your company provides your insurance. I had been on Tremfya for 6 months & suddenly insurance denied my REFILL. My benefits mgr helped get it done after a month straight back & forth with insurance & doctors office.

Look up patient assistance for your medication. Lots of the companies that make drugs offer patient assistance programs that pay for most if not all the cost

All you need to do is provide proof you have tried other medications, and once approved for the med, they generally can not go backwards.
