I know this song is a love song to a lot of people, but that’s never how I hear it. Every time it plays, I think about my relationship with God. Not because I hate Him, but because faith has felt complicated for me. When I hear, “I’ll be on a boat, you’re on a plane,” I picture myself moving slowly through life while God sees the whole journey from above. We’re headed toward the same destination, but it often feels like He’s so far away while I’m trying to figure everything out.
“You were the best, but you were the worst” reminds me of how life can feel. There are moments I’m deeply grateful, and moments I wonder why painful things were allowed to happen. My faith has been full of questions, disappointment, hope, anger, love, and still choosing to hold on. I don’t know what Gracie Abrams intended when she wrote this song, and I’m not claiming this is its meaning. It’s simply what the lyrics mean to me. That’s the beautiful thing about music, it finds people where they are. This song found me in my conversations with God, not in a relationship🥺🥹❤️
