@dr.matthew.parker: Sometimes the hardest part of going into private practice is just the decision to do it. For many years, I struggled with what I perceived to be an insurmountable amount of work to start a practice. I figured I’d have to join a physician group, wait years, and then eventually break off on my own. As a result, I stayed within a larger organization for many years because I liked the security and feared making the leap. Telehealth has significantly reduced the barrier to entry for starting a practice compared to even 5 years ago. Really, all you need these days is internet, a computer, a video camera, and EMR software for your patients, and all of that is relatively simple to attain. I wanted my patients to have options to see me, so I opted to get a physical office as well (cue the small tour). What questions do you have about private practice? #MentalHealth #psychiatry #medicine #privatepractice #residency
