@missclairebenjamin: Handling your manager falsely accusing you of something… As human beings we are all very good at making assumptions and jumping to conclusions. It’s part of how our brain works. One of the things that sets apart emotionally intelligent leaders is awareness around this. Awareness means whilst we may hold assumptions or judgements about someone’s behaviour until we speak to them we never know the whole story. So we must first lead with curiosity. The flip side of this is this is that sometimes we may be interacting with someone who doesn’t have this level of awareness and therefore accuses us of something we haven’t done. Or makes assumptions without hearing our side. It’s human nature to feel defensive in a situation like this. It doesn’t mean you need to act from a defensive place though. Instead to shift the dynamic and regain control ask questions- when we ask someone questions to gain more clarification and then ask if you can share your perspective. Have you ever been in a situation like this on either side? Share your experiences in the comments. 📌 Please remember the advice offered in this video is generalised and will not fit every situation. This literally happened to me. He was higher than me so I didn’t even get to say what had happened. I was labelled rude and unhelpful.

Employers are legally obligated to hear both sides of the story. They must keep a neutral stance on any complaints like this. This includes getting both sides of the story and acting as a mediator until there is sufficient evidence to act on. This right here is an employment tribunal waiting to happen.

This happens All the time, even in life. Just because someone ACCUSES does not mean the accuses are true. And I think it’s dangerous to believe the claims without any proof.

I wish I’d had this advice a few years ago! I was accused of something, but it was completely the other way around, but when they confronted me about it, I got defensive, and came across as having an attitude! 😡 suffice to say, the next day I went off sick as I was leaving in 4 weeks anyway and didn’t go back.

Bear in mind: if someone says something like "you hurt my feelings", that isn't demonstrably false, so you can't really say it's a false accusation.

I'm Gen X. I say it as it is. Being straight forward, open and honest is a quality! People know where they stand with me! I don't back stab, gossip of gang up on anyone else! I'm at work not at school.

I once lodged a complaint because a colleague had called me a horrible name in front of another colleague. HR spoke with her, she lied to them that I’d started it and I got an official reprimand with no chance to respond. It was awful.
