The band jumped in, it was really starting to feel like something, and then suddenly everything went quiet. The stage manager had pulled the plug on our amps and told us we weren’t going anywhere anyway. I told him, “Give me one year, pal, and I’ll show you who’s not going anywhere.” Eight months later, we were headlining The Fillmore, sold out for four nights, doing four encores a night.
