Immanuel wallerstein is the father of world systems theory. essentially you've got the theory down. more basically its that there are cores and peripheral spheres to capital. which is why certain regions can seldom escape their sphere in capitalism.

Please do a review after finishing! Looking it up, since it was originally published in 1994, I’m curious as to the interpretations of that time of the forces undermining American dominance economically. Definitely adding to my list to read for the year but hesitant of my own capabilities to understand it😭

You are the only person I ve ever seen or met or heard who has ever read this amazing book!!! The ebb and flow of “space and time” shape of different capitalist empire and has a very convincing argument on why once you lose the industrial base it is very difficult to get it back..

textile, sugar...etc...capitalism was built off of Slavery....even the silver mines in Bolivia was mined off Indians Slavery for the Spanish Empire. But we all should know that sugarcane fields and then cotton fields were worked by slaves taken from Western African. Starting with the Portuguese in Brazil. The Spanish, the Dutch, French and English shipped human cargo to the Caribbean Islands and to the States. The Dutch would bet and insurance if ships made it back with human cargo or textile...sugar. and etc...which got Wall Street(built by slaves and where they were sold by the way) going.
