@rollingstone: @thesarabareilles opens up on what she's learned about grief: “What I realized is that grief must be witnessed. You must share it. It doesn’t heal on its own… So it’s wild. Grief is a miracle. It’s just love. It’s so beautiful.” #sarabareilles #goodgrief #grief #sarabareillessong #sarabariellesgoodgrief

Grief is not just an emotion—it’s an unraveling, a space where something once lived but is now gone. It carves through you, leaving a hollow ache where love once resided. In the beginning, it feels unbearable, like a wound that will never close. But over time, the raw edges begin to mend. The pain softens, but the imprint remains—a quiet reminder of what once was. The truth is, you never truly "move on." You move with it. The love you had does not disappear; it transforms. It lingers in the echoes of laughter, in the warmth of old memories, in the silent moments where you still reach for what is no longer there. And that’s okay. Grief is not a burden to be hidden. It is not a weakness to be ashamed of. It is the deepest proof that love existed, that something beautiful once touched your life. So let yourself feel it. Let yourself mourn. Let yourself remember. There is no timeline, no “right” way to grieve. Some days will be heavy, and some will feel lighter. Some moments will bring unexpected waves of sadness, while others will fill you with gratitude for the love you were lucky enough to experience. Honor your grief, for it is sacred. It is a testament to the depth of your heart. And in time, through the pain, you will find healing—not because you have forgotten, but because you have learned how to carry both love and loss together.

Needed this. Lost my mom 3- weeks ago and meandering through the different experiences associated with grief is truly challenging.

This is how I feel about sobriety as well. You have to share your struggles

Mmm idk. It's a very privileged perspective to have others witness your grief. Not everyone has that but the "alchemy of it" can absolutely still change. No ONE way is a "must" and every way forward is valid.

The problem is people don’t want to hear your grief all the time. After losing my 19 year old daughter I am a shell of the person I used to be. Many of the people around me don’t want to hear about my grief anymore.

100% true. I lost my son in 2010 and it’s still raw in my heart and soul.

I heard grief called a sacred wound that never really heals, you learn to live with it, care for it and oversee it...this resonates, I think we all try to rush thru grief to heal but I don't think that is the end game.

thank you for your opinion and your experience. after 5 years of sharing it in a support group I decided it was time to stop sharing it and start healing. last month was 11 years for the kids and I. we are healed, happy, and living our best lives. I still miss her, I still love her, I still talk to her daily. but I don't grieve.

I lost my mother 9/20/2025 and I have been very reclusive and I am at a point now where I am going to grieve very loudly because it hurts being quiet.

Agree. My friends invalidated and refused to acknowledge my grief and that was worse than the loss.

I've lost so many loved ones. it started at a young age with my parents n 3 siblings. grief has shaped my life. and its crazy to say but it made me a kinder more empathetic human. Just stretch your grip legs n share. But your grief will never go away. its something we live with but can also turn into something beautiful. stay syrong🥰
