i work at a dog groomers salon, we have approx 2,000 dogs in our books the most friendly dog we have is an xl bully named halo. she lives around the corner from us and comes in the shop daily. she refuses to leave until we give her cuddles and treats. i bumped into her at pets at home once and she ran across the shop to say hi to me, sweetest baby seal in the world🤍

the ban was not the way to go, but ignoring the issue would have also been wrong. poorly bred/trained xls WERE killing people. partly due to people breeding them for aggression and partly because people got them without understanding them

I’ve had more bites from a chihuahua than I have from any big dogs, there’s no such thing as a bad dog, only bad owners. Wouldn’t leave a friends small dog alone with my kids for a second, I’m more likely to leave an XL bully alone with my kids for a minute (but I wouldn’t leave my kids alone with any dog for longer than that, even a dog I have owned and trained from a puppy, not because I don’t trust a dog, but because I don’t trust my kids ability to read a dogs signs

Honestly a think at the end of the day no matter what breed u have, it’s ur responsibility to make sure they’re safe, cared for and trained properly. It’s not the dogs responsibility.

You are the first page I have seen that disagrees with the ban but still acknowledges genetics! I love it! A mix of genetics + bad breeding (sometimes) + bad owners (sometimes) has been the reason this has happened! My unpopular opinion is that I think that people who get strong dogs with strong genetics should have to get a licence and know about the breed!

i agree with what you're saying! no dog is bad, but not all dogs are suitable for all humans. in the same way that a malinois or border collie is a terrible idea for a sedentary family in a flat with no outside space. just because dogs are amazing doesn't mean they are harmless!

I don’t support breed bans it’s unfair that dogs suffer and get demonised for bad ownership. I totally agree some dogs are more prone to aggression, but that’s exactly why we should have legal requirements to own them. We should have special licences like for exotic animals: all owners need basic training, and these breeds need extra checks to prove people are qualified. Responsibility lies with us, not the dogs.
