Did you ever notice when you walk into a commercial business? They use brick or stone or non combustible materials within close proximity of a fireplace insert. behind that non-combustible veneer, is a non combustible backer board to create a non combustible opening for the insert. Building Standards Needs to approve this in a new build, why is not required for an upgrade?
