@black.chronicles: Warren Wheeler He Built His Own Airline to Sneak Black Pilots Into Major Carriers This video examines the story of Warren Wheeler, the founder of Wheeler Airlines — the first Black-owned commercial carrier in American history, launched in 1969. After major airlines refused to give him a cockpit, Wheeler built his own corporate hub out of a North Carolina farm and secured federal contracts flying U.S. Postal Service mail to fund his operation. He then transformed his fleet into a covert flight training pipeline for Black pilots, building their flight hours and forcing racist corporations to either hire them or fall behind. This is hidden Black history and untold Black history involving aviation history that is rarely taught in school.
