d e l e g a t i o n (3 lessons from 1 year of trying it👇) 1. maker vs manager schedule. As someone who’s a self-defined “i hate management” person, i block out all direct calls/communications on tuesdays, to protect deep work time to make vids and new creative stuff. i also used to just try “not to manage” which was stupid asf, and just made it hard for anyone to work for me or follow any instructions 2. “show me the incentive and i’ll show u the outcome” this is a quote from warren buffett. I always ask what someone’s long term goals are when hiring. The best incentive imo for a dedicated team member from my experience is someone whose 5-year career goals are similar to the work they’d do for the role. 3. it’s okay to suck at first. good leaders aren’t born that way This is something i’m actively reminding myself every day cus bro this managing team members thing feels so difficult at times. I still get nervous at the thought of hopping on a call and “hiring” or giving instructions. I still question why tf someone would actually enjoy working for me. And for MONTHS, i have put off hiring because at the core, i was just SCARED OF REJECTION. Scared of literally trying to hire and having no one interested. but one mindset that’s helped recently is that everything in business is an experiment. no matter how shite i am as a leader TODAY, i’m simply learning to be the best possible leader, best possible entrepreneur, and even one day the best possible dad i will be
